About us

St Peter’s School, Rathgar is a Special School situated in Dublin 6 which caters for up to sixty children and young people with special needs. The school serves a wide catchment area in South Dublin.
St Peters School has a highly motivated and dedicated staff of teachers, care workers and special needs assistants who together provide a caring, therapeutic environment which enables children with special needs to grow and foster emotionally and academically and also help them to cope with, and overcome their individual difficulties. In this environment our children feel happy, safe and secure and able to learn at their own pace.
The Primary school curriculum is adapted to the individual needs of each child in the school. We also follow the JCSP programme for the older age group which gives the opportunity for certification and recognition of work achieved while in our school.
To accommodate the wide ranging needs of the children in our school we provide a unique classroom environment which allows a play and activity area to be shared between every two classrooms. In this area children engage in a variety of group activities such as art and craft, project work, music and drama classes, sand and water play and a much loved quiet book corner! We also use the most up to date technologies –computers and internet, tv and video to enhance their learning and academic progress.
Physical education and sport form an important part of our curriculum including football, basketball, badminton, athletics and swimming. Many of these activities provide opportunities for friendly competition and interaction with our neighbouring schools.
